printers continue to be printers
Oct. 9th, 2024 07:33 pmmy printer has been streaking the back of everything with black ink intermittently. i don't print anything doublesided so it's not a huge deal, but it does Bother Me, and sometimes it causes minor-but-not-as-saleable-as-i'd-like cosmetic defects. today i got in there with my gloves and some alcohol and a paintbrush and swabs (AND a flashlight) and cleaned the rollers. this was very tedious. took me like 30 minutes and was not a cool time for my neck and back. there's kind of no good way to get in there at the right angle.
i printed a few pages and they were streak-free... on the back. needed to do a head cleaning and alignment.
then it started streaking the backs of my pages again.
i went AAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH and AaaaaaaaaAARGHHH and OOOOGGGHhhh and thought, maybe it's just the end for the rollers. maybe i just need to order some replacement parts? but i had just ordered a bunch of shop inventory. then i looked at the rollers again and saw fresh ink splotches on them.
it seems like... when you run a head cleaning cycle... the printer spews a little bit of black ink onto the middle rollers. so it's not just a head-cleaning cycle, it's a roller-dirtying cycle. i have to clean the heads pretty much every print session, so now i have to remember to at least quickly swab the rollers every time i do a head cleaning i guess LMFAO god
the Brother MFCJ4335DW remains the least-bad printer i have ever owned, but printers: they're bad
in other news,
