doodlemancyi haven't been blogging much because it would have been 90% complaints about being a shambling slime factory beset by the beginnings of seasonal depression. but around the 5 day mark i did start to feel well enough to focus on things other than Game Dev Story again, and i for some reason got obsessed with updating Iron Company's UI, so, i did that. here's the glow-up.
The Start Screen!
before/after... look at that, it's got new things in it! plus the font changed.
The New Game Screen (Which Is New)
i didn't want to shove people through a tutorial but i did want to draw attention to these features, so you can set them up before you start a new game and they've got tooltips. also you can see the new quick menu style here, which is at the bottom of the screen during gameplay. i let people switch it back to text if they want but i am an Icon Liker (i find text distracting, my brain wants to read it)
Help Is Now More Helpful
where there was once only default Ren'py help menu stuff, i've added an explanation of the Quick Menu, including the new icon-style quick menu i added this week, an explanation of all the Preferences, and a page with content warnings you can click to hide and show.
Encyclopedia & Achievements
The Encyclopedia menu updates with character bios as you go along, and the Achievements menu is designed with the explicit goal of getting people to try different options/find different endings/see my funniest jokes.
i'm pretty proud of my work here! i've come a long way with Ren'py. i know a lot of this stuff looks pretty simple but for me, a baby coder, this is like... this is like if you saw a baby deadlift 20 pounds. like that's not a lot in terms of deadlifting but it's really impressive when a baby does it.
